Maternal depression detection goal

A perinatal mental health eLearning program aims at early detection of depression in pregnancy and postnatal depression.

Its goal is to enhance supports and treatment for expectant and new mothers experiencing depression.

The introductory eLearning program is targeted at midwives but can be accessed by any clinician working with expectant or new mothers.

Midwives are among of the key health professionals working with women in pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

Representing Minister for Health David Davis, MP Elizabeth Miller launched the program.

The eLearning program is a collaboration between the Department of Health’s Maternity and Newborn Clinical Network, the Mental Health and Drugs Region Program and Monash University.

The Maternity and Newborn Clinical Network is a part of the Department of Health’s Commission for Hospital Improvement.
