Robyn and Nickola jpegMaryborough District Health Service’s Robyn Bowen and Nickola Allan celebrate 2013.

Maryborough marks international nurses day

Maryborough District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Glenis Beaumont’s nursing background came to the fore as she acknowledged International Nurses Day.

‘It’s important at MDHS that nurses feel part of the whole organisation.

‘There are more than 240 nurses working on three different campuses – in acute care, aged care, palliative care, midwifery, theatre, dialysis, district nursing and community services.

‘Celebrations such as International Nurses Day are a way in which the MDHS board of management and executive can acknowledge the important work undertaken by nurses,’ Ms Beaumont said.

International Nurses Day marks the birth of Florence Nightingale, born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy.

The International Council of Nursing allocated Closing The Gap: Millennium Development Goals as the 2013 theme.

The goals are eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality rates, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.
