Great Ocean Road ready in case COVID pops up

Great Ocean Road Health has added a new element to its COVID-19 testing sites – a mobile trailer enabling staff to ‘pop-up’ anytime between Apollo Bay and Lorne.

The trailer has been fitted out with all the necessary equipment, including swabs, personal protective equipment (PPE) and marketing material.

‘Staff can drive the trailer to a proposed venue and set up within an hour,’ said Great Ocean Road Health facilities and infrastructure co-ordinator Kerry Bubica.

‘With the large influx of visitors holidaying in our catchment area our mobile pop-up clinic will accommodate the testing demand and take the pressure off our rural urgent care services.

‘We are very keen to continue to achieve a high testing rate, especially among our large aging population.

‘Now is the time for the community to remain vigilant in keeping up COVID-safe practices and up-to-date with the latest outbreak advice,’ Ms Bubica said.

Great Ocean Road Health has been on the front foot on COVID-19 testing since October.

Realising there would be large numbers of Victorian visitors to the area during summer, the service used spring to trial pop-up testing.

It identified locations and ran multiple scenarios on fast and convenient testing while providing a safe environment for staff.
