Patient safety videos available to all health services

Yarram and District Health Service – with the Health Issues Centre (HIC) – has produced four patient safety videos.

The HIC is a membership-based organisation of consumers, health professionals, managers and researchers.

It is a non-profit organisation helping consumers and the health sector partner for healthcare improvements.

The HIC Practice Partners Program financed the YDHS video project.

The videos were made after feedback from patients indicated they were not reading the material provided to them on preventing falls, pressure injuries and a range of other topics.

The YDHS consumer partnership committee had a key role in all aspects of the video production.

Four separate videos provide information on:

•       The importance of hand washing to prevent infection;

•       How to avoid falling in hospital;

•       How to prevent pressure injury in hospital;

•       The importance of medication, identification, the patient’s right to request more information, to provide feedback and to speak up if they feel there is a change in their condition.

The videos have been deliberately made with generic content so that any health service may use them.

•       They are available via the Health Issues Centre website at http://www.healthissuescentre.org.au/health-services/practice-partners-program/yarram-and-district-health/.
