Interns have recruited from all
over to Northern Health.
Young doctors flock to Northern Hospital
‘We have boosted the number of
medical interns at Northern Health by 27 per cent in the last two years, as
demand for our health services increases,’ said Northern Health’s Acting CEO
Robynne Cooke.
‘Having completed their medical
degrees, these interns will be working across a range of fields, including
medicine, surgery and in the emergency department.
‘They will also alternate
through health areas such as aged care, orthopaedics, vascular thoraces,
anaesthetics and mental health.’
For the first time, medical
interns at Northern Health will also have the opportunity to work rotations in
urology, obstetrics and gynaecology.
Selected from 660 applicants, the
47 junior doctors come from far and wide with one coming from Perth.
Locally, medical interns have
been recruited who live in Reservoir, Thornbury, Preston and Thomastown.
‘Our new recruits will help us
every week treat thousands of patients, deliver 44 babies and assist 48
children in our child and adolescent health unit,’ Ms Cooke said.
‘They will also assist us to
help 1,300 patients in our emergency department and perform around 120 elective
procedures and around 100 emergency operations.’
As well, interns will support health services in Kyneton, Bendigo and Leongatha to broaden their medical experience.
