The Wimmera Hospice Care
Auxiliary hosted the two-day school holiday sewing program.
Auxiliary vice-president Lea
Crammond said 20 girls, aged from eight to 12, participated in the program and
loved every minute of it.
‘It was just wonderful to see
how excited they got when they saw what they had made,’ Mrs Crammond said.
‘All the volunteers who helped
run the program are auxiliary members and they enjoyed seeing the girls’
enthusiasm, especially as sewing is becoming a dying art.
‘As well as sewing, we taught them
what the hospice and the auxiliary is about.
‘It is great to get the next
generation involved in fundraising in a fun way.
‘It is important for them to
know how fundraising helps people.’
The girls made needle books to
hold needles and pins, scissor keepers and mini fabric cupcakes.
Mrs Crammond said she hoped to
run more sewing programs during future school holidays.
