Honour for heart services leader

Director of MonashHeart Ian Meredith has been admitted as a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day 2012 Honours List.

Professor Meredith has been recognised for his work as a clinician and researcher in cardiology.

His official nomination also praised his work as an advocate and advisor to numerous public health organisations.

Chief Executive of Southern Health Shelly Park said Professor Meredith was a world-leader in cardiology.

‘His research, advocacy and clinical work have had an enormous impact on the cardiac services at Southern Health and across the country.’

His work in developing the MonashHeart service and brand has allowed it to become Victoria’s leading provider of cardiac services, boasting innovative programs.

Professor Meredith serves on a number of Victorian, Australian and International committees and boards.

He has led the MonashHeart team to many national and international clinical firsts and he has been principal investigator in a number of large international trials.

He has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals and, over the last 20 years, has given more than 300 invited lectures and presentations nationally and internationally.

He is also the public face of the National Heart Foundation’s Warning Signs campaign.
