Midwifery to the fore at Western Health

Professor Linda Sweet has been appointed chair of midwifery at Western Health, a joint position with Deakin University.

One of the few chair of midwifery positions connected to a health service in Australia, the role is expected to strengthen and grow Western Health’s research in midwifery.

The new position will work collaboratively with the established chair of nursing role held by Professor Bodil Rasmussen.

Professor Sweet is a distinguished scholar, a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators, a Fellow of the Australian College of Midwives and has numerous educational and research publications in both peer-reviewed journals and books.

Her most recent position has been head of the midwifery teaching section and higher degree co‑ordinator at Flinders University in South Australia.

Previously, she taught in the multidisciplinary master of clinical education program.

An educator and researcher with both midwifery and nursing backgrounds, Professor Sweet has broad experience in a variety of clinical environments, management and research.

She is the deputy editor of Women and Birth – the official journal of the Australian College of Midwives (ACM) – and reviews for numerous journals.
