Best of the west on show

A Best Care for Older People (BCOP) nursing projects showcase attracted a strong crowd to Western Health Centre for Research and Education.

The showcase featured interactive displays and verbal presentations, celebrating what has been achieved this year.

It focused on 15 Western Health staff members who have led projects focused on improving care for older people across the organisation.

The nursing projects program is part of Western Health’s two-year BCOP implementation plan, funded by the Department of Health, which has provided $300,000 a year for 2011–13.

Western Health Chief Executive Associate Professor Alex Cockram said the improvements to aged care for older people throughout 2012 were a testament to the hard work and dedication of the 15 staff.

‘This is a really inventive approach to embedding evidenced-based practice across the organisation so our workforce on the ground is innovative in its provision of quality care.’

A typical day at Western Health sees 70 per cent of admitted patients aged 65 and over.
