Working together during testing times

Parneet Kaur joined Northern Health as a ward clerk in March and has been working at the service’s COVID-19 testing clinics.

Her mum, Jatinder, often works alongside her – she began three years ago first as a personal service assistant (PSA) and is now a ward clerk.

‘Obviously, with a mum in health care, I got insights into the workings of a hospital,’ said Ms Kaur, a final year student of international business studies.’

‘I find it really rewarding to be able to help people, especially in the current situation.

‘Patients are appreciative of what we are doing and understand the challenges of our eight-hour shift.

‘The staff are supportive and nice – doctors, nurses and PSA’s helping each other and happy to give a hand.

‘The teamwork and camaraderie is special.’

Ms Kaur’s mother said Northern Health was their second home.

‘If this home needs something, we need to help.

‘According to my religion, we have to help the community.

‘As our gurudwara’s (temples) are closed, I feel like working in the fever clinic is like going to the temple, because I’m doing something for the community.

‘I love Australia.

‘This country has given me a lot of opportunities and, as an Australian, I’m happy to help.

‘This is the time to stand with the community and I’m proud I get an opportunity to do so.’
