Don’t be an April faller

Wimmera Health Care Group raised awareness of falls prevention by wearing April Falls Day t-shirts.

Clinical risk manager Sally Taylor said staff arranged the health promotion event to highlight ways to prevent falls in the community, hospital and residential aged care.

‘We have an outpatient clinic for patients at risk of falling called the Gait and Balance Clinic and we wanted people to also know what other services are available in the community,’ Ms Taylor said.

‘So we used the April 1 event to promote that and also launch our new ‘Preventing falls’ brochure for consumers at an afternoon tea.’

Falls prevention is an important activity for Wimmera Health Care Group as falls are one of the largest causes of harm for those aged 65 years or more, leading to loss of independence and often admission to hospital.
