Refugee Health Service Utilisation ReportThis report is the result of a collaborative project undertaken by the Refugee Health Research Centre, La Trobe University and the Chronic Disease Surveillance and Epidemiology Section of the Department of Human Services. The project examined whether there were differences between Victorian residents born in 15 refugee–source countries and the Australia–born population for a range of acute health care utilisation measures, over the period 1998 to 2004. The study was undertaken to inform policy and planning regarding the health care needs of individuals from countries with a history of immigration to Victoria under the refugee and humanitarian programs. Compared with self-reported data from immigrant population health surveys, use of a hospital discharge dataset provides objective health care characteristics. The refugee–source countries included:
