Common Technology Infrastructure (CTI) initiative

Overview

The Common Technology Infrastructure provides a common access framework to HealthSMART Services supported applications.

CTI is a single centrally hosted user directory for participating VPHS system users, with each user defined once in a common format, and that user definition accessible from any health agency. Each health agency can assign and manage access rights to a user without impacting on other agencies.

The following CTI services will be available for use by health agencies during 2011:

  • a single sign-on portal, which includes State-Wide Active Directory (SWAD), single sign-on and user provisioning to HealthSMART applications.
  • smartcard capability, and
  • secure remote access based on defined user privileges.

The single sign-on portal service has been delivered and is now available to health agencies. The available CTI services enable workstation roaming and provide access to centrally hosted HealthSMART services and nominated applications from participating agencies. These core services are available to agencies in the co-existence model.

When an agency elects to move from co-existence to a fully migrated model, that health agency could take up some or all of the following planned centrally hosted services.

  • Microsoft Exchange and Office Communication Server - mail, calendar and productivity applications such as desktop video initial implementation for HealthSMART Services.
  • Storage as a service - for archive or transactional activity
  • CA Clarity software as a service - project and portfolio management tool, potentially allowing ready sharing of project implementation templates and project issue/risk repositories
  • Infra Service Desk software as a service - standards compliant Service Desk providing enhanced visibility of HealthSMART incident status, and reduced transcription, and
  • Virtual Server hosting as a service - enabling some agency local ICT workload to be supported from the HealthSMART data centres.

The scope of CTI Services is regularly reviewed by the CTI Product Planning Group.
