A comprehensive review of the health status of Victorians was undertaken, quantifying the contribution to the burden of disease in 1996 of mortality, disability, impairment, illness and injury arising from 176 diseases, injuries and risk factors (with this burden projected to 2016):

    Information about the Burden of Disease in Victoria including mortality and morbidity reports and DALY worksheets.
  • Burden of Disease – LGAs and regions
    Information about the Victorian Burden of Disease study including background to the study, searchable estimates database, accuracy of estimates, frequently asked questions and maps of local government areas.

A Literature review of public health interventions for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis & Osteoporosis
This report will enable the Department of Human Services and decision makers to undertake informed planning and development of services to optimise arthritis and musculoskeletal disorder prevention, education and management in the Victorian community.

Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP)
The EPHPP is a key initiative of the Public Health Research, Education and Development (PHRED) program. It is jointly funded by the Canadian Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the City of Hamilton, Social and Public Health Services Department.

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
NICE is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health. NICE replaces the Health Development Agency.

The Health Inequalities Research Collaboration (HIRC).
Research in Australia and overseas has shown that people who experience social and economic disadvantage tend to be sicker and die younger than others. The goal of the collaboration is to enhance Australia's knowledge of the causes of and effective responses to health inequalities, and to promote vigorously the application of this evidence to reduce health inequalities in Australia.

Centre for Health Promotion, University of Toronto
Centre for Health Promotion, University of Toronto has produced and an Overview of Sustainability Workbook. The workbook is designed to increase understanding about the concept of sustainability; provide suggestions and tools regarding approaches that will increase the likelihood; and provides examples of health promotion activities that have been sustained.

Interactive Domain Model (IDM) of Best practices
A website that aims to promote discussion of best practice ideas, and to provide information to make the application of best practices easier.

Victorian Quality Council (VQC)
The Victorian Quality Council is responsible for fostering better quality health services in Victoria by working with stakeholders to develop useful tools and strategies to improve health service safety and quality.
