2009 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards - Bushfire tribute
Transcript

“No one could imagine the havoc and devastation caused by the February bushfires.
The fires overwhelmed the places where we live, work and play … and tragically took 173 lives.
78 towns across Victoria battled the fires. 2000 homes were lost and more than 2500 farming, commercial and community buildings destroyed.
Some 13,000 stock were killed and a million native and wild animals also perished.
It was the worst natural disaster to ever face Victoria… yet the tragedy united the community in a multitude of ways … and tonight we pay tribute to those health services who rallied to aid those in need.
We acknowledge the healthcare professionals who worked on the front line during this crisis – our mental heath and primary care teams, the burns units, emergency departments, and all the health services who supported the towns and regions.
Thank you for delivering outstanding care in the most testing of circumstances.”
