About VAED
The VAED data collection also enables the Department of Human Services to meet the requirements of the Victorian Health Act 1958, which includes maintaining a comprehensive information system on: VAED data are also required to meet the requirements of The Victorian Annual Reporting Act 1983 and The Australian Health Care Agreement.
The Health Data Standards and Systems Unit (Acute Health Services Division), manage the operations of the VAED and an external Facilities Management company provides technical services and support. PRS/2 (Patient Reporting System) is the interface between a hospital's in-house patient management system and the operation of the VAED. Data is processed into the PRS/2 database and each month extracts are provided which are consolidated as the VAED. The VAED comprises a minimum data set containing (de-identified) demographic,administrative & clinical data. A list of all data fields stored in the VAED are provided in the file structures included in the VAED Manual.
