DHS Information Management Strategy
Through information management reform, the DHS Information Management Strategy aims to improve the quality of collected data, and achieve a better balance between the information needs of DHS and the burden of collection to the department and funded organisations.
The key objectives of the DHS Information Management Strategy are:
- strengthening governance arrangements for DHS program data collection and reporting
- reviewing DHS program data collection and reporting requirements to identify opportunities for rationalisation and reform
- implementing information management reform strategies across DHS as approved by the Executive Directors MHACS, RRHACS, MHD, CYFD, HCB and DSD
- improving the feedback from DHS program areas to funded organisations on data they transmit to DHS.
The strategy was initially confined to health and aged care program data in the Metropolitan Health and Aged Care Services (MHACS), Rural and Regional Health and Aged Care Services (RRHACS) divisions. With the change in divisional structure in 2007, this continues to include the Mental Health and Drugs (MHD) division.
In mid-2007 additional funds were allocated to support the expansion of the strategy to include information management reform in the Children, Youth and Families (CYF), Housing and Community Building (HCB) and Disability Services (DSD) divisions.
