Food Safety Unit Strategic Directions 2004 - 2007

The Food Safety Unit has over the past few years been focused on developing and implementing food safety legislative and regulatory reforms, and is now implementing activities that enhance the unit’s role in identifying emerging food safety issues, increasing the capacity of key stakeholders to deliver services, and increasing consumer awareness of food safety issues.

Four key strategic directions for the unit are:

  1. Strengthening the administration of the food safety regulatory framework in Victoria.
  2. Increasing stakeholder knowledge, capacity and innovation to facilitate an effective food regulatory system.
  3. Increasing consumer awareness and knowledge of safe food practices.
  4. Increasing the knowledge base of emerging risks and trends.
