Introduction
One of the key drivers for the development of the state’s drinking water regulatory framework is the recognition of the importance of safe drinking water to the ongoing social and economic wellbeing of Victorians.
The Safe Drinking Water Act 2003 came into effect on 1 July 2004. This report is the fourth annual report on the quality of drinking water in Victoria under this legislation. It covers the period 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008.
This report has been prepared in accordance with section 32 of Victoria’s Safe Drinking Water Act 2003, which requires the Secretary to the Department of Human Services to provide the Minister for Health an annual report of drinking water quality in Victoria.
This annual report provides an overview of the operations and implementation of the Act and the performance of water businesses in respect to the Act for the 2007-08 year. The report includes a statewide perspective of drinking water quality, a summary of implementation activities, and summaries of the performance of the regulated water businesses in respect to the draft drinking water quality standards and water quality incidents.
