Human health action 3.4 of the whole-of-Victorian Government policy Our Environment, Our Future - Sustainability Action Statement 2006 identifies the development and implementation of heatwave plans and emergency responses at a community and local government level as a priority.

This section of the site provides information about:

  • Community resources
    Provides a suite of communication resources in a range of formats with a number translated into community languages.
  • Heat Health Alert System
    Includes information about the Department of Health Heat Health Alert System and the current heat health alert.
  • Heatwave Plan for Victoria
    The department has prepared a state heatwave plan which sets out the roles and responsibilities of the Victorian Government, local government, emergency management and the health and community service sector.
  • Heatwave planning
    Includes information regarding local government heatwave planning and the Heatwave Planning Guide.
  • Forums & workshops
    Includes presentations from the Heatwave Planning Guide Forum and the National Workshop on Heatwave Planning.
  • Research & publications
    Includes the Chief Health Officer’s report on the January 2009 heatwave in Victoria, the heatwave newsletters and an overview of recent research the department has conducted.
