SmokeSmoke from wood heaters, bushfires and open air burning can affect indoor and outdoor air quality and may affect people's health. Wood smoke may be a nuisance, without affecting health. The BetterHealth Channel fact sheet "Wood fires and breathing problems" provides information on actions that can be taken to avoid or reduce the potential health effects of wood smoke from wood heaters and fires. The EPA has further information on wood heaters and smoke including: how to reduce smoke from your wood heater; what to do about neighbours with smoky wood heaters; and the selection, purchase, installation and maintenance of your heater. This EPA webpage also has information on Bushfires, air quality and air pollution. The information sheet "Bushfire Smoke and Your Health" provides more information on health and precautions that can be taken.
A related fact sheet "Open air burning and smoke" includes information on prescribed burning. |
