Alcohol & other drugs workforce development strategy

The key principles underlying this first Victorian Alcohol and Other Drug Workforce Development Strategy is ensuring that those who provide treatment and services to people with AOD issues have opportunities to participate in relevant training and development, access to support initiatives and other quality focused support services. With service delivery across some 90 drug treatment agencies, coupled with General Practitioners and generalist DHS workforces working with clients with AOD issues, there is a large workforce requiring a coordinated approach to the systems development, learning and education aspects of Workforce Development.

Developing a workforce development strategy is both an opportunity and a commitment by the Department of Human Services to provide AOD treatment services with the support and assistance to increase not only the skills and knowledge of AOD workers, but also the capacity of the sector as a whole. We must develop, cultivate and maintain a truly specialist and professional workforce, ensuring a basic level of well-qualified personnel who will be regarded as credible experts by those who call upon it.

As part of the AOD Workforce Development Strategy many new projects, opportunities and resources will be available, so check this page regularly for the latest updates.
