Alcohol & Drug Youth Consultants (ADY-C)

The primary goal of the ADY-C program is to provide and ensure specialist drug and alcohol assessment, treatment and monitoring of child protection clients in out of home care, residential facilities and Adolescent Community Placement (ACP).

Aims of the program

The aims of the regional focus of the ADY-C are to improve the experience and outcomes for young people with AOD use issues in out of home care and Adolescent Community Placement, and to; assist in ensuring high level DTS intervention by addressing gaps in the current service system and ensuring continuity of care.

The aims of the SWS ADY-C are to improve the experience and outcomes for young people with substance use issues who are in the Secure Welfare system, and to; assist in ensuring high level DTS intervention by addressing gaps in the current service system and ensuring continuity of care for the young person.

Key service requirements

The regionally focused ADY-C program has seven key result areas:

  • To deliver specialist knowledge and support to the Child Protection case planning process, ensure assessments and contribute to appropriate assessments, interventions and common practices, protocols and processes.

  • To work closely with the Child Protection and Juvenile Justice Branch and Drugs Policy and Services Branch to support the achievement of priority objectives of the positions.

  • To ensure strong linkages and co-ordinated service responses with the existing SWS Specialist AOD Treatment Worker.

  • Support ongoing service delivery and implementation through the provision of advice, support to CP, DTS and Placement Funded CSO’s providing placement to the client group to ensure continuity of service and stability in the care experience.

  • Support a change management approach to the current issues in the CP and Placement and Support sector in managing young people with substance abuse issues through collaboration, partnership, shared learning, and by providing practical guidance which supports the development of workable solutions, both within and between each service system and DHS.

  • To provide linkages into drug treatment services that provide after hours treatment for the client target group.

  • Provide active monitoring and tracking of the target young people moving between the service system and own network.


The Secure Welfare Service focused ADY-C has four key result areas:

  • Work within the SW service and contribute to the development of appropriate assessments and interventions.

  • To ensure strong linkages and co-ordinated service responses with the existing SWS Specialist AOD Treatment Worker.

  • Support ongoing service delivery and implementation through the provision of advice, support and recommendations.

  • Support a change management approach to the current issues in the Child Protection and Placement and Support sector in managing young people with substance abuse issues through collaboration, partnership, shared learning.
