General alcohol & drug supported accommodation
Supported accommodation provides short term support in a safe, drug-free environment to clients who require assistance in controlling their alcohol and drug use.
Target group
Persons who have undergone an alcohol and drug withdrawal program or who require assistance in controlling their alcohol and drug use and need a period of one to twelve months supported accommodation to assist reintegration into community living.
Key service requirements
- Provide short-term supported accommodation to alcohol and drug clients who have undergone a drug withdrawal program or who require assistance in controlling their alcohol and drug use.
- Provide support and assistance to enhance the clients capacity for non-drug abusive community living through skill acquisition, counselling, personal care activities and relapse prevention.
- Facilitate client access to other services appropriate to their health and welfare needs.
- Negotiate an Individual Service Plan with the client.
- Support the client in safe, secure and affordable accommodation.
- Provide appropriate services for carers and families of those affected by alcohol and drug use.
Women's drug & alcohol supported accommodation
Supported accommodation provides short term support in a safe, drug-free environment to women who require assistance in controlling their alcohol and drug use.
Target group
Women who have undergone an alcohol and drug withdrawal program or who require assistance in controlling their alcohol and drug use and need a period of three to twelve months to support their transition to independent, addiction-free living. These women may have dependent children who also require accommodation and support from the service.
The aims and objectives of the service are:
- To provide a safe, drug-free, supportive environment to help women achieve and sustain independent, addiction-free living.
- To provide support to the client's dependent children.
- To improve awareness of harm minimisation strategies and increase the capacity of the individual to maintain behaviour which reduces drug related harm.
- To develop effective linkages with other health and welfare services which impact on a women's life, in order to facilitate the provision of integrated and coordinated care and comprehensive exit planning.
Key service requirements
- To provide short-term, safe, secure and affordable supported accommodation to women who have undergone a drug withdrawal program or who require assistance in controlling their alcohol and drug use and, where appropriate, to their dependent children.
- To provide support and assistance to enhance the client's capacity to cope effectively with the challenges of daily living without drug addiction through skill acquisition, counselling and relapse prevention.
- To facilitate and where appropriate case manage client access to, and use of, health, welfare, vocational, recreational, social and parent and family support services.
- To ensure that effective linkages are in place to enable the service to liaise with and refer to agencies who can provide services appropriate to the needs of dependant children.
- To negotiate an individual service plan with the client.
- To support the client to make the transition to independent, addiction-free living in appropriate longer term accommodation with an exit plan which includes continued support, as necessary, form other relevant agencies catering to the ongoing needs of the client.
- To provide appropriate information and referral services to client's families and significant others.
- To ensure that the service delivery is appropriately informed by, and responsive to, both service users and best practice developments.
- To ensure that services provided are effectively integrated with the current drug treatment service system and other relevant service systems.
