Drug Policy Expert Committee

On 8 November 1999, the Victorian Government announced the appointment of a Drug Policy Expert Committee to be chaired by Dr David Penington. The Committee will provide reports to Government on a local drug strategy, implementation of a trial of safe injecting facilities as well as other components of the Government's drug policy.

On 19 April 2000, the Committee provided its Stage One to Government. That report proposed a framework for a trial of injecting facilities in the context of local drug strategies. On 13 November 2000, the Drug Policy Expert Committee provided its Stage Two report to Government responding to its remaining terms of reference.
