Ecstasy, ketamine & GHB: A review of users and Victorian alcohol & other drug treatment interventionsDrugs Policy and Services Branch, DHS, funded Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre to conduct a research project: "Ecstasy, Ketamine and GHB: A review of users and Victorian alcohol an other drug treatment Interventions". The project was completed in November 2007. The project was undertaken to identify current treatment related interventions provided to ecstasy, GHB and ketamine (EKG) users, barriers to seeking interventions and ways to improve the current service response. The research identified that while EKG users had sought treatment for other drug use, they did not see their use of EKG as a problematic. Service providers reported that infrequent contact with these clients and their unwillingness to acknowledge their EKG use as problematic, reduced the capacity of treatment services to provide information to this group on the long term effects of EKG. Findings from the research will enable the DHS to influence improvement to clinical practise which should lead to enhanced client outcomes. Further information can be found on the TurningPoint - Alcohol and Drug Centre website.
