Party Tips for Parents

If your teenager is having a party, it is important that you sit down with her/him and set some ground rules to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time. There are a number of things you should do with your teenager when organising the party. These include deciding:

  • The number of people invited and who is invited;
  • How they will be invited to the party;
  • When the party will start and end;
  • Who will supervise the party;
  • Will alcohol be allowed at the party;
  • What other types of drinks and food will be available;
  • How gatecrashers will be dealt with if there are any; and
  • How will people get home.

There are also a number of things that parents should decide with their teenagers before they leave to go to a party not being held at home, such as checking on the details of the party (i.e. location, time, supervision) and ensuring that they have a lift home.

It is important that parents communicate with their teenagers and formulate ground rules together.
