Australian Code of Good Wholesaling Practice for Medicines in Schedules 2, 3, 4 and 8 (the Code)
Holders of a licence to manufacture and sell or supply by wholesale or a licence to sell or supply by wholesale, Schedule 2, 3, 4 or 8 poisons will be required to comply with the Code.
While the Code states that it is effective as of 1 April 2011, in Victoria the date for compliance with the Code will be 1 April 2012.
From 1 August 2011 wholesale licence holders will need to review and amend their current Poisons Control Plan in accordance with the revised format to demonstrate how compliance with the code is to be achieved.Following the review, wholesale licence holders will be required to submit the revised Poisons Control Plan to Drugs and Poisons Regulation prior to 1 April 2012 for approval.
By 1 April 2012 the wholesale licence holder will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Code and for ensuring the revised Poisons Control Plan has been submitted for approval.The revised format Poisons Control Plan template is now included in the Drugs and Poisons website under
