The work of the Branch is to strengthen the department's strategic workforce planning and development capability across all health services and the department and includes the nurse policy and human resources functions.
The role of Sector Workforce is to undertake workforce policy development, coordination and implementation, to support health services, health professionals, Department of Health program areas and others in enhancing communities' access to services and improving the health of Victorians. Priorities include improving workforce availability and distribution, strengthening health education and training, supporting the recruitment and retention efforts of health services and ensuring that health professionals have appropriate roles, competencies and workforce environments to assist them in addressing client/patient needs.
Nurse Policy is responsible for a range of programs and policies to build the capacity and capability of the nursing and midwifery workforce in Victoria, including recruitment and retention activities; promoting safe and flexible working environments; effective utilisation of nursing skills (such as Nurse Practitioner and Division 2 Nurse Strategy) and supporting contemporary training and education of nurses and midwives.
Human Resources Services offer strategic advice and direction to the executive, managers and staff across a full range of 'people management' issues. Services include; HR Operations; HR Information Policy and Advice; Strategic Projects and Governance; Organisational Development and Executive Services.
