Dental Health Program funding model and data set

A new funding model and data set for the Dental Health Program commenced on 1 July 2011.

The new funding model changes the way public dental services are funded and monitored. It applies to public dental services delivered by public and private providers that are purchased by Dental Health Services Victoria on behalf of the department.

The new funding model is activity based and the activity measure is a completed course of care. The funding unit is a Dental Unit of Value (DuV). Agencies will be set DuV targets based on their total service delivery funding.

The modelling in work associated with the development of the new funding model highlighted the need for robust, unit level data. The new dental data set will streamline data submission and analysis.

A two-year transition phase will allow time to validate the new funding model and reporting arrangements.

Further information on the new Dental Health Program funding model and data set is attached below.
