Overview

During 2004-05 the Department of Human Services worked in partnership with a Reference Committee and health service providers, consumers, carers and other community members to develop the policy ‘Doing it with us not for us - Participation in your health service system 2006-09: Victorian consumers, carers and the community working together with their health services and the Department of Human Services’.

The policy was launched in February 2006 and a Participation Advisory Committee to the Department of Human Services was convened in July 2006 to advise on the implementation of the policy across the Victorian health care system.

Key initiatives developed from the policy by the Participation Advisory Committee include:

• the Participate in Health Conference: Making it Work held to facilitate sharing of experience and commence gathering the evidence on participation
• $200,000 to fund four Evaluating Effectiveness of Participation projects in Victorian health services. See guidelines below and click on the above link for an overview of the projects:
