Quality of Care Reports and AwardsPage Contents: Reports | Awards | Rural category health service list (by region) | Barwon South West region | Loddon Mallee region | Gippsland region | Grampians region | Hume region | Regional/Large category rural health service list | Metropolitan category health service list ReportsThe annual quality of care reports are a key strategy to ensure accountability of health services, to promote changes in systems and professional practices, to provide consumers with information, and to establish a process that reports on and promotes continuous improvement. A quality of care report describes the systems and processes in place in health services to monitor and improve quality. It emphasises what these systems do, particularly the results and outcomes of the monitoring, and the action taken as a result of any identified quality issues. Quality performance indicators and other information on each of the minimum reporting requirements should also be included in annual quality of care reports. The mandatory quality and safety minimum reporting requirements are: infection control; medication errors; falls prevention and management; pressure wound prevention and management; and continuity of care. Health service boards should consult with their community about the content of their annual quality of care reports and seek their evaluation of the report. Guidelines outlining in detail the reporting requirements and award selection criteria are provided to health services annually by 30 April each year and are available on the Publications page of this website. AwardsAwards are presented for Best Annual Quality of Care Reporting in each of the following categories:
A list is provided below of the health services within each category. Two new awards, Most Improved Reporting and Best Distribution and Evaluation Strategy Reporting, are being presented from 2005 in each of the categories outlined above. Three assessment panels, independent from the Department of Human Services, representing a range of perspectives about consumer focussed safety and quality information undertake the assessment process for the awards. Two of the panels short list all entrants and a final panel judges the winners from the short listed services. Overall findings from the assessment panels and the winners of awards are published annually following the awards ceremony on the Publications page of this website.
