Guidelines for the governance, election & appointment of Members of Boards of declared Community Health Centres: March 2007

Overview

The Guidelines describe the Department of Human Services’ (DHS) expectations of Board members for the governance of Community Health Centres (CHCs), and how Boards will be elected, appointed and managed. They replace those published by DHS in May 2004.

The Guidelines cover the following content:

  • The Overview summarises the governance model;
  • Chapter two provides information about CHCs, the role of Boards, how Boards operate, good governance and the benefits of community and consumer involvement;
  • Chapter three describes the election process;
  • Chapter four describes the appointment process; and
  • Chapter five describes resignations, casual vacancies and removal of Board members.
