GP contracts
It is important to make informed decisions about the most suitable model
of employment/engagement for GPs. There are a variety of alternatives for
CHSs to consider.
Information on GP employment contracts can be found from:
A useful document has been developed by the AMA and is entitled "Guidelines
on Service Contracts between Doctors and Medical Practice Principals".
This document can be downloaded from the Australian
Medical Association website.
The Department of Human Services recommends that individual Community Health
Services seek their own legal advice as to whether the employment arrangements
they are operating under fit within the guidelines of the Health Insurance
Act 1973, sub section 19(2).
Teaching practices
There are two main opportunities to encourage students who are about to
complete their studies to consider taking up a position as a General Practitioner
within a Community Health Centre.
1. Undergraduate

2. Postgraduate
The Australian
General Practice Training Guide for GP Registrars is the key reference
on relevant policy, requirements and features of vocational training for
General Practice. It provides information about the Training Program, details
of eligibility and arrangements for teaching and supervision in training
posts.
The National Training Post Standards are available from The

Victorian Hospital Industry Association (V.H.I.A)
VHIA is a nationally registered employer organisation that represents the
