Kids – Life!

Kids – Life! is a new targeted Go for Your Life initiative supporting a healthy lifestyle for families. It provides childhood obesity intervention for families with children aged 5-12 years who are overweight or obese.

The initiative will be locally managed by nominated Primary Care Partnerships that will support service coordination, program recruitment and workforce development in children’s weight management.  Lifestyle change programs will be delivered through community health services.

Service Coordination Tool Templates revision 2009 – child and family project

This service coordination project is revising the SCTT suite to make it more useful for practitioners to record and communicate information about children and families and to identify a common child development tool.

Developing evidence based practice – professional development pilot

The Centre for Community Child Health has been commissioned to develop, deliver and evaluate the effectiveness of a professional development module for child health teams in community health services, based on their practice resources. The project aims to foster the uptake of evidence base practice and improve the generalist, interdisciplinary underpinning of specialist skills, in the following child health priority areas:

  • Language & literacy
  • Behaviour
  • Preventing overweight and obesity and addressing eating behaviour problems

The professional development workshops were trialled with paediatric staff from three participating CHSs in late 2007. Final evaluation is forthcoming and will inform future workforce development.

Family Partnership Training

An intensive training course in the Hilton Davis Family Partnership Model was provided to 60 paediatric community health practitioners over 2007.
The Family Partnership Model assists practitioners to develop the core skills of helping, needed to establish a facilitative relationship with parents. In Victoria this training is available through the Centre for Community Child Health and The Queen Elizabeth Centre.
