Organisational structure

The Clinical Liaison Service is currently staffed by two consultant forensic physicians, one registered nurse, an investigations officer and an administrative officer.

Amanda Charles
Clinical Research Nurse

Amanda Charles is the principle Clinical Research Nurse for the Clinical Liaison Service. Amanda is currently practising in emergency nursing and is studying a professional Doctorate of Nursing. Amanda has vast experience in the provision, management and evaluation of clinical care, and has a very strong educational background and is a nurse educator. Amanda has also undertaken a research project with CLS examining which deaths are and are not reported to the coroner from two major metropolitan hospitals.

Lisa Brodie
Administration Officer

Lisa is the Administration Officer for the Specialist Investigations Unit, which includes the Clinical Liaison Service. Lisa is responsible for the initial identification of hospital deaths, the receipt and return of medical r3ecords and all other general administration.

Dr. Joseph Ibrahim
Consultant Physician

Joseph Ibrahim is the Research Manager for the Clinical Liaison Service. Joseph’s principal areas of expertise include quality of clinical care, patient safety and performance indicators. He has completed a Doctorate of Philosophy examining the epidemiological principles of performance measurement and quality in health care. Joseph has effectively integrated a research module into the activities of CLS.

Barbara Thorne
Manager, Specialist Investigations Unit

Barbara is the Manager of the Specialist Investigations Unit which comprises the Clinical Liaison Service and the Work-related Liaison Service.  She is a qualified investigator and has post-graduate qualifications in criminology.  Barbara has worked in Corrections for several years investigating deaths in custody and the community.

Dr. Adam O'Brien
Consultant Physician

Adam O’Brien is the Investigations Manager for the Clinical Liaison Service. He also works as an emergency physician in paediatric and mixed emergency departments. Adam has a keen interest in patient safety and the prevention of adverse events. He is currently completing a Graduate Diploma of Forensic Medicine.

Carmel Young
Clinical Research Nurse

Carmel is one of the Clinical Research Nurses for the Clinical Liaison Service. She has a certificate in Midwifery, Critical Care and a Diploma of Management. Carmel has vast experience in emergency nursing and has an interest in risk management.
