- What's an RSS Feed?
RSS (most commonly expanded as Really Simple Syndication) files contain details of the latest items available within a website. They help you to keep up-to-date without having to check the site itself.
Viewing Feeds In An RSS Reader
A feed reader is an application that retrieves website content in the form of a web feed (usually in the formats of RSS, Atom or javascript formats). RSS readers allow you to subscribe to the RSS feeds you want. There are a variety of RSS readers available.
- Plug-in readers work within one of your existing programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Firefox or Internet Explorer. Most current web browsers have feed readers built in.
- Stand-alone readers are applications that run in the background on your desktop and automatically update your subscribed feeds. You can also use web-based readers or dedicated software. Try searching for "RSS reader".
NB: EBSCO does not support or recommend any specific RSS reader.
Reading Articles
Once you have subscribed to the RSS feeds that you want, your RSS reader will automatically update with the latest news. The feed reader will provide you with easy-to-browse summary information so you can see what's new, and read only the articles that interest you.
