Clinical Engagement - Workshop 10 October 2008
Supporting Doctors in enhancing clinical performance: Benefits and Strategies
The Department of Human Services is committed to building engagement with senior medical staff, as a key strategy in the ongoing development of the health care system. The Statewide Quality Branch has developed a suite of clinical engagement projects and one of the strategies is related to the development of a state-wide performance review and support process for senior medical staff. This strategy is intended to build on the policy, Credentialling and Defining the Scope of Clinical Practice for Medical Practitioners in Victorian Health Services, that was released in Victoria in 2007.
To begin engagement with medical staff and health service administrators in developing this strategy and to clarify the linkages with credentialling and scope of clinical practice, a workshop was held on October 10 2008 at Telstra Dome. The objectives of the workshop were to develop:
- an understanding of barriers to implementation of the credentialling and scope of practice policy
- a shared understanding of the benefits of engaging with medical staff
- an agreement on the key elements of a standardised review and support process for Senior Medical Staff.
