Overview

The Cemeteries and Crematoria Amendment Bill 2009 has been introduced into Parliament. It proposes changes to the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003 to ensure that cemetery and crematoria services are well placed to meet the needs of the Victorian community now, and into the future. The amendments are intended to improve the governance and accountability of cemetery trusts (focusing especially on the trusts who report to Parliament under the Financial Management Act 1994) and to make some housekeeping changes to improve the administration of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003.

On 29 Jul 2009 the second reading speech on the Cemeteries and Crematoria Bill 2009 occurred in the Legislative Assembly.
