Overview
Victoria has a proud tradition of caring for its forebears in a system of public cemeteries. The Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, which commenced on 1 July 2005, governs the operations of Victoria’s cemetery and crematoria system. The act was most recently amended in 2009.

National Competition Policy Reviews - Cemeteries Act 1958
The Victorian Government made a commitment to the Council of Australian Governments that Victorian legislation would be reviewed from a national competition policy perspective by the end of the year 2000. In accordance with that commitment this review examines the restrictions on competition in the Cemeteries Act 1958 ("the Act").
