The Minister received the SSA's final report on this review in June 2007. The report has now been released to the sector for information and as further background to the changes to the structure and governance arrangements for the cemeteries sector recently announced by the Minister for Health. Questions and AnswersChanges to Cemetery trusts - Questions and Answers Costing study for Cemeteries and CrematoriaIn order to assist cemeteries and crematoria meet their statutory obligations under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, the Department has developed a costing framework and Cemeteries Common Chart of Accounts (CCC) for use by the industry. The Chart will enable cemeteries and crematoria appropriately identify cost drivers relating to core services and assist in the development of fees that take into account the costs of operating and managing the cemetery and those associated with meeting its perpetual maintenance obligations.
Evaluation of the Financial Viability of Victoria’s Cemetery Trusts and the Development of Fee Models - August 2002In accordance with the Terms of Reference provided by the Cemeteries and Crematories Unit of the Department of Human Services RSM Bird Cameron have undertaken an evaluation of the financial viability of the Cemetery Trusts in Victoria and developed fee models to assist the cemetery sector meet its long term obligations. Victorian Cremation Industry ViabilityThis review was commissioned to provide the department with information about the viability of the Cremation industry in Victorian This review had two broad aims:
The department received the MJA report in late 2004. Its release was delayed pending the outcome of Auditor General's investigations into the cemetery and crematoria industry. One of key recommendations of the MJA report is that the department commence a review of the current structural arrangement of the industry related to cremation, particular with reference to its financial impacts. This report was considered by the Auditor General's in their review. The MJA report has been released to the industry for information, the moratorium on the construction of new crematoria will continued and the recommendation regarding the review of the structural arrangement for funding the industry be considered along with the Auditor Generals key policy recommendations.
