Ministerial Taskforce for Cancer 2003 - 2007ReportsLiterature review on hospital and clinician volume or specialisation in cancer careThe development of models of care across the Integrated Cancer Services requires a sound basis in quality of care and outcome. The strength of evidence for a volume and outcome effect specific to each of the ten major tumour categories, and the evidence that exists to define high volume for each of these ten categories, is of importance to clinicians and health services, and requires further investigation. The Ministerial Taskforce for Cancer sponsored a project to undertake a comprehensive, evidence-based literature review and analysis examining the relationship between outcome and volume or specialisation in the area of cancer care and patient outcomes, for each of the ten major tumour groups identified in the Cancer Services Framework for Victoria. The executive summary and the final report as produced by the Monash Institute of Health Services Research is now available. Cancer research activity in VictoriaTo enable the development of a strategic approach that will integrate and coordinate cancer research in Victoria, it is essential to understand the nature of research that is currently being conducted across the State. It is also important to identify the resources and infrastructure that will facilitate this research, as well as the enablers and challenges for the field. |
