Overview
The Review of current cultural and linguistic diversity reporting requirements, minimum standards and benchmarks for Victorian health services, undertaken by the Institute for Community, Ethnicity and Policy Alternatives (ICEPA) at Victoria University has concluded.
This project examined the planning and reporting arrangements under the Health Service Cultural Diversity Plans, reviewing national and international literature and current practices. Twenty-eight consultations were undertaken with nine health services in metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria. Focus groups were held with selected consumer advisory committees or representatives of cultural diversity committees.
In addition to this process, a statewide consultation workshop was held with health services in February 2009 to test the proposed framework, which included the draft recommendations and standards. Health services were further invited to provide written feedback to the Department of Health for consideration.
A report on the project findings incorporating feedback from the consultation process has been presented to the Department of Health.
