Official Fire Ready guide available now

The official Victorian Fire Ready guide recently featured in the Herald Sun. Guides are still available at Australia Post outlets, IGA stores, Victorian newsagencies and online.

Fire Ready is the whole of Victorian Government campaign that aims to help Victorians prepare for this summer’s bushfire season. With fire a natural part of our landscape, the guide aims to raise awareness and provide valuable information to the Victorian community on how to be Fire Ready this summer. The guide provides Victorians with valuable information on how to prepare and monitor the bushfire risk to your property, your physical health and your emotional health.

The Department of Health and Department of Human Services contributed advice on health and mental wellbeing throughout the bushfire season with useful tips on how to prevent heat-related illness to the Fire Ready guide.

Prepare your mind & prevent heat-related illness this bushfire season

Bushfire season can be an incredibly stressful, exhausting and dangerous time. It is important to prepare to deal with this time both mentally and by preventing illnesses that can be brought on by extreme heat and bushfires.

The new Department of Health and Department of Human Services have developed this site to provide information for individuals to prepare themselves mentally and physically to deal with bushfires.

Bushfire response: Clients and services policy 2009-10

The Department of Health and the Department of Human Services have released a new policy to address the recommendation from the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission Interim Report for safeguarding children and other vulnerable people during the bushfire season.

The safety of the department’s clients, staff and services is paramount and this policy aims to ensure we are ready to act and survive on a Code Red day or fire threat.
