Breast Prosthesis Study
BreastCare Victoria commissioned the Cancer Council of Victoria
to undertake research on the provision of breast prostheses
in Victoria. Currently the provision of breast prostheses
funding is either through the affected woman's treating
hospital, or through the Department of Human Services Aids
and Equipment Program (A&EP), formally known as the
Program for Aids for Disabled People (PADP).
The research
examined both avenues of provision. The first study focused
on the A&EP, and a number of its recommendations
have been actioned. As well as examining the process of prostheses
funding via public hospitals, the second study also explored
the factors that make for a quality prosthesis. This study
has also been completed, and BreastCare Victoria has implemented
a number of recommendations from the study.
