The Hume BSEP encompassed a large geographical area of Central,
North East and Northern Victoria. Within the region there
are three large centers covering Wodonga/Albury, Shepparton/Goulburn
Valley and Wangaratta/Benalla. Seymour/Lower
The region boasts a range of breast care services including
Surgeons, Oncologists, Radiologists, Breast Care Nurses, Oncology
Nurses, General Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Pathologists
breast cancer support groups and volunteers.
Goulburn Valley Health Shepparton was the lead agency for
the region. The Hume BSEP team included a lead clinician,
project manager and project officer. The BSEP team supported
an Executive Committee (consisting of 2 representatives from
each of the three major areas) a Steering Committee (consisting
of 5 representatives from each main area) and a separate Working
Group for Wodonga/Albury, Goulburn Valley and Wangaratta/Benalla.
Each of these Committees/Groups met bi-monthly. A wide range
of stakeholders, including Consumers, were represented on
these Committees.
Program Objectives
The aims of this program were to develop and implement strategies
to enhance breast services in the Hume region by addressing
the key issues identified:
Access for women living in the Hume region with particular
emphasis on those living outside the main centers.
Identification of, and coordination between, the agencies
that provide women with breast services in the Hume region.
Monitoring of breast services in the Hume region to ensure
accordance with current best practice.
