Grampians BSEP
Program Overview
The Grampians Region covers an area of 49,112 square kilometres
across the central western section of Victoria and consists
of 11 local government municipalities. The two major regional
centres are Ballarat and Horsham.
The Region has 11 public and one private health organisation
providing acute health services, and three community services
(including one women's health service). Three Division's of
General Practice support the General Practitioners across
the Region. The regional BreastScreen Service is located in
Ballarat and Horsham.
Of the 12 hospitals, eight undertake major surgery for breast
cancer. Full chemotherapy services are provided in Ballarat
and limited chemotherapy in Stawell and Horsham. Radiotherapy
is provided in Ballarat.
Ballarat Health Services was the lead agency to the Grampians
BSEP. The Advisory Committee of the Program comprised members
from:
- the Consumer population - both rural and regional centre
locations;
- acute health and community health organisations;
- key medical groups - general practice, surgery, oncology;
- allied health - breast care and community nursing; and
- hospital executive staff.
Program Objectives
The Grampians Program addressed two priority areas - multidisciplinary
care and communication, information and support - developed
in context of the needs of the Region.
