Gippsland BSEP

Program Overview

The Gippsland region begins at the New South Wales border and extends through the West, South and East Gippsland. It includes such regional centres as Warragul, Traralgon, Moe, Morwell, Sale, Bairnsdale, Orbost, Mallacoota, Phillip Island, Inverlock, Wonthaggi and Foster. As an indication of the vastness of the region, Mallacoota is a seven hour drive from Melbourne.

Latrobe Regional Hospital was the lead agency of the Gippsland BSEP. Overall management of the program was through a regional Advisory Committee, clinical coordinator, program manager, DHS project officer, project worker, and regional breast care nurse coordinator. The Advisory Committee met on a six weekly basis and comprised of representatives from a range of service providers in the region. Consumer representatives were involved throughout the development and implementation of BSEP acitvities.

Program Objectives

The Gippsland Program focussed on three of the four priority areas of the Breast Services Enhancement Program: Multidisciplinary Care, Breast Care Nurses. and Communication and Information.
