Barwon South Western BSEP

Program Overview

The Barwon-South Western region covers an area of 30,000 square kilometres, that extends from Geelong in the east to the South Australian boarder and as far north as Casterton and Coleraine. The area has a population of 330,000 and approximately 250 women are diagnosed with breast cancer per annum.

There are five main centres providing care to women diagnosed with breast cancer. These are Geelong with both public and private hospitals, Colac with surgical outreach to Terang and Timboon, Warrnambool with both public and private health care, Hamilton and Portland.

A member of the executive team of each health service in the region, as well as senior clinicians and consumers represented on the Barwon BSEP Co-ordinating Committee. Two Regional Reference Groups comprising Directors of Nursing, Breast Care/Community Health Nurses, Clinicians and Consumers, provided clinical guidance to all projects.

The project team included: a Clinical Coordinator, Project Manager, Project Officer and Regional Breast Care Nurse.
