Senior Officers’ Group (SOG)
The Senior Officers’ Group (SOG) is chaired by the Director of Public Health and comprises senior officers from the Departments of:
- Human Services (DHS);
- Primary Industries (DPI);
- Sustainability and Environment (DSE);
- Justice (DoJ);
- Premier and Cabinet (DPC); and
- Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD).
The SOG meets as needed to ensure that Government is provided with advice on:
- the implementation of gene technology and related safety and ethical issues;
- policy relating to the public health, safety and environmental aspects of biotechnology;
- any proposed review and changes to the Gene Technology Inter Governmental Agreement;
- any proposed review and changes to gene technology legislation and the associated regulations;
- advice relating to Victoria’s participation in the national regulatory framework for gene technology;
- any other policy matters related to the safety and ethical aspects of biotechnology.
